How to submit comments on the National Organic Program (NOP) proposed rules. When submitting comments about the use of sludge in the NOP proposed rules, you must include the following:
Your name The USDA requests you identify yourself by organizational affiliation and/or "respondent category," such as; university/college, consumer, livestock producer, crop producer, economist, environmental advocacy group, public interest group, small business, etc. Mail comments to: Eileen S. Stommes, Deputy Administrator, USDA-AMS-TM-NOP, Room 4007-So., Ag Stop 0275, P.O. Box 96456, Washington, DC 20090-6456. Fax comments to: Eileen S. Stommes, Deputy Administrator, USDA-AMS-TM-NOP; (202) 690-4632
Email comments by going to the National Organic ProgramÕs homepage at: Do not staple or clip multiple pages. Clearly state that you want municipal sewage sludge to be classified as synthetic and not appropriate for use in organic crop production. All comments are made public; posted in the USDA offices, scanned and put on the NOP homepage on the internet. If you wish to comment on other topics in the proposed rules, you must submit a separate letter noting the topic and the section number of the issue you are addressing.
